The ‘Unretirement’ Wave - How to Attract & Engage Older Workers
Introduction
When is the last time that you offered a job to someone over the age of 55 or 60? Have you ever employed someone over the age 65?
Businesses in some sectors continue to face significant recruitment challenges. Managers report that they do not receive the number of quality applicants they hope to see. They might also lose their favoured candidates throughout their recruitment process, resulting in a failed recruitment campaign.
This leads to some positions remaining vacant, which can have serious implications for some organisations who struggle to meet their business objectives without sufficient staffing levels. It is time to think about broadening our appeal as employers to groups of workers who we may have overlooked - older workers.
Sometimes organisations appear to focus more on the needs of other groups of employees and inadvertently exclude those in the latter stages of their careers. Yet many people nearing pension age want to continue working or may need to work for financial reasons. They are as able to provide ongoing, loyal service as other workers.
