Introduction

There is an ever-increasing requirement on professionals to demonstrate that they are putting ethics at the centre of their business, not just to satisfy their regulators but also for the reassurance of their clients. As societal standards change, regulators continue to refine their rules and expand their remit.

All members of RICS across the globe are subject to RICS' Rules of Conduct, the current version of which became effective from 2 February 2022. Surveyors need to ensure that they are familiar with the requirements of the Rules, a breach of which may give rise to disciplinary action. Members of the public are increasingly ready to raise complaints with the RICS and in 2023, RICS received 1981 complaints, and RICS opened formal investigations on 32% of these.

This virtual classroom seminar is aimed at surveyors who are subject to RICS regulation, wherever they are located. It will explain in practical terms what the rules say and provide detailed examples of how surveyors can ensure that they are demonstrating the ethical principles of honesty, integrity, competence, service, respect, and responsibility on which the rules are based.
